Methlick community council was formed in 1976 as part of local government reorganisation.  As a Scottish community council it plays an important part in keeping Aberdeenshire Council informed of local opinion, concerns and acts as a statutory consultee on licensing and planning matters.

Serving on a community council can be a personally rewarding duty, making a contribution to local civic life, ensuring issues are raised with council officials and local improvement projects brought to fruition.

Without community councils, local projects and expenditure is less likely to proceed.  Aberdeenshire Council officials, have less information on which to base decisions.

Community councillors act as trustees or forum members for the park, and Haddo Country Park.  They have been important custodians for funds for community development from wind turbine developers, or house builders who have obligations for developing facilities in Methlick.  It is a varied and interesting responsibility essential to our community.
