Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan 2016
Proposed Supplementary Guidance 8 – Aberdeenshire Forestry and Woodland Strategy – Consultation
As you may be aware, Aberdeenshire Council is preparing a Forestry and Woodland Strategy. We are now at a stage of formally launching our Proposed Aberdeenshire Forestry and Woodland Strategy (“the Strategy”) and associated Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment for comment by communities and stakeholders.
The proposed Strategy has been prepared in light of an initial ‘Call for Views’ in Autumn 2015. Having taken comments received into account, the Strategy sets out high-level objectives for forestry and woodland management and creation, reflecting national policy and regional circumstances for the Local Development Plan (LDP) area (i.e. the area of Aberdeenshire out with the Cairngorms National Park). The new Aberdeenshire Forestry and Woodland Strategy will replace an existing joint Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City document produced in 2005.
The Strategy is one of a series of Supplementary Guidance documents prepared to support the next LDP expected to be adopted in late 2016. It provides further information on the relevant policies set out in the LDP and how to apply them. As part of the LDP, the Strategy will be used by the Council in determining planning applications, but you will see that it is much wider in scope than just a ‘planning’ document. The Strategy should influence the work of partner agencies, the forest industry, landowners and land managers, developers and communities more widely in tackling the key issues and furthering the opportunities that the Strategy identifies. The Strategy will influence the new woodland creation elements of the Scottish Rural Development Programme Forestry Grant Scheme.
The proposed Strategy is published today, 15th February 2016, for a period for public comment lasting 8 weeks, closing on 8th April 2016. The proposed Strategy can be viewed via the link below. A response form has also been prepared and is available via the link. Whilst we encourage use of the response form, comments received by email or in writing will also be accepted. A short film giving further details on the Strategy is available at the link.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or members of my team if you have any queries. We hope that that the short film we have produced will answer many of the questions you have regarding the strategy, and may be a useful as a starting point for discussions at a Community Council meeting. If you require more information, we would be more than happy to try our best to meet with the Community Council during the consultation period to present and discuss the proposed Strategy with you.
