For the Community of Methlick in Aberdeenshire

Cricket sevens started off the Methlick Gala under blue skies.

Methlick’s cricket club Gala was blessed with the sun for the day – and was appreciated by the crowd after last years cold weather.

For the cricket sevens, Methlick, sadly did not make the final and the honours eventually went to Inverurie in a great final game against Ellon. No amount face painting by the Ellon team put off the Inverurie batsman who romped to a record innings. Ellon’s reply was excellent but not good enough to win the Methlick Sevens event.

Turriff CC were firts time attenders this year and while overwhelmed as grade 4 side by Ellon’s gfrade 1 team, they chalked up a notable win against Methlick seconds in an entertaining tight match.

The day, of course,  had the usual duck race antics in the Ythan with the winning duck from D Morrison and the winning time from Mark Colley-Davies at 51 minutes on a slow-ish river.

Ronnie Chisholm, Charlie Allan and Carrie Christie, line up for the off at the MCC Laird’s ground.

The Grand prix had a 50% increase in entrants this year!  Still won by Charlie Allen.  The win was “The pinnacle of his sporting career”…a claim made by his son Jay. Ronnie Chisholm, his arch rival definitely had the slower chariot and muttered oaths about turbo charging etc. But newcomer Carrie Christie did give Charlie a run for his money.

Methlick under 5’s had face painting and cakes. Welly throwing and coconut shy were also on offer with a bar and BBQ. The bouncy castle was always busy and ice cream, teas and coffees went down well all day.

Congratulations to all the organisers and volunteers on a great day.
