For the Community of Methlick in Aberdeenshire

Methlick Play Project gets ‘last piece in Jigsaw’ and set to go ahead.

European funding has been awarded to Methlick Park Project.  Euro funds under the LEADER funding stream have been awarded by the Aberdeenshire local Action group for LEADER Funding.  Aberdeenshire LAG chairperson Belinda Miller said: “I am delighted that Aberdeenshire LEADER is supporting a wide range of rural community projects across the area.

“These successful applications will help to revitalise communities.”   said Ms Miller

Since 2008, almost £5 million has been pledged to more than 140 projects in Aberdeenshire, and this latest round of funding will help many of these community initiatives get off the ground.

James Hall, from the Methlick play park project said: “The LEADER grant means a huge amount to our local Methlick community and now puts us on target to start building in April 2013. The timing is perfect and we are very thankful for this funding.”

The project at Methlick has seen the levelling and draining of football area and a second phase looking to improve the play area.  Eventually, it is hoped an all weather facility will complete the community’s improved facilities. The project started by Jay Allen from the Community Council and supported by local Councillor Paul Johnston, Formartine Partnership and crucially, local Wind farm Developer Davie Smith from Skelmonae who’s community contributions have been the mainstay of the project funding allowing the application for Euro funding to go forward.
