New Surgery move to help Haddo Medical Group patients

A new Company – owned and run by the community, for the community has been formed to improve health care in Methlick, Tarves and Udny.  B999 Health Trust is a ‘social enterprise’ – that is – it is a not for profit company that uses any surplus ‘profits’ for the benefit of local health.

The idea has come about because of the problems that arose with proposals to NHS Grampian to remove dispensing from the Doctors surgeries in Tarves, Methlick and Pitmedden because of a new Pharmacy in the area.  The NHS have now allowed dispensing at Methlick to ALL Methlick patients and those in the rural areas of Tarves, who might use Methlick surgery.  Tarves surgery had closed but becasue of this local group may be re-opening in February..

When those behind the campaign to keep dispensing at Methlick and Pitmedden as well as re-open Tarves surgery, considered what the outcome of the NHS Board might be, they realised that there was a need for a longer term, sustainable service for the three villages. The solution proposed was to open our own pharmacy, employing a fully qualified pharmacist in Pitmedden.  The surplus from this business then supporting services across the area for all patients.  The idea sprung from Chris York and Tamsin Morris with support from Cllr Paul Johnston, Brian McDougall, Bob Davidson and David Hekelaar.
